Salvation plus a good deed?
Self effort is focused on self achievement.
We must do this for God.
I must do this for God.
You must do this for God.
They must do this for God.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification were through the law, then Christ died to no purpose.” (Galatians 2:20-21)
Christianity is called the exchanged life. We give up self effort and let God be in control. We cease from works! So many so called believers are battling Satan in self effort. Then they wonder why they are defeated. The Lord, he is God! He defeats all his enemies!
We are called to have servant hearts and this is a kingdom principal.Too many people want to be Lords and glory hogs. As Jesus Christ rules in our hearts then we will truly have dominion over the powers of darkness.
“You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:24-45)
If salvation were by grace through faith plus a pilgrimage to Jerusalem or a gift of $50 to the Church, we would be saying through all eternity, “Am I glad I made that pilgrimage (or gave that gift)!” We would share the glory of our salvation. And God does not wish to share His glory with anyone—even with us!
See how sad this sounds…….and that is what one is saying when they add works to Gods unspeakable gift of Jesus Christ.
If anyone adds any work to salvation in any way they are nullifying the cross and rejecting the atonement. If one is adding works to the gospel he has fallen from grace, and grace no longer applies.
My concern is that all would come to the knowledge of the truth and repent of dead works. You may think you are saved by adding works to keep your salvation but alas you are not.
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast.
